COVID – 19 Update

Update on Practice Protocol following the Prime Minister’s announcement that the majority of lockdown rules and regulations will end on 19th July 2021.

We know that the past 18 months have been incredibly difficult for everyone. Your support and understanding during this time has been incredibly humbling and gratefully received.

As a family run business it is a priority of ours to ensure the safety of our practice family – staff, clients and our beloved patients.

This is why we have made the decision that our current protocols will remain in place, with the majority of our workload remaining socially distanced/contactless.

Most of our staff are young people who have not received 2 vaccinations. Until all our staff have received both Covid – 19 vaccinations and have had sufficient time to build immunity, we will keep measures in place to support and protect them.

As an ‘Essential Business’ our practice has remained open throughout every national lockdown. Our staff have worked tirelessly to provide care for pets while creating a safe environment for our clients, especially the more vulnerable amongst us.

Under the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct, we are obliged to ‘take steps to provide 24-hours emergency aid & pain relief’.

In order for us to continue to do so, we need to limit the risk of infection for our staff until they have received both vaccinations.

If our team is drastically reduced in size due to infection or having to self isolate, we will be forced to reduce the services we offer and the number of patients we can see. This will put animal’s lives and welfare at risk.

As a ‘Nurse Training Practice’ we have very young nurses on staff who have moved away from home to complete their placement. We have a moral obligation to them and their families to keep them as safe as possible during this time, this is something we take very seriously. The Veterinary industry is a tough and tiring profession at the best of times, no one deserves to feel at risk while working.

We know that the vast majority of our clients are respectful and thoughtful when they interact with our staff. Many of you have known our team for many years. We are sure that you can understand our strong belief that they deserve to feel safe and secure at work.

During this time, we assure you that we are making plans and putting measures in place in order to welcome you back into the practice at a time when we can assure your safety as well as the safety and security of our staff.

We have always tried to be flexible where possible and put safe plans and protocols in place so that we can be there for our clients when they need us most.

Our staff will still be greeting you at the door in masks or visors and we will still be offering in clinic appointments for cases of a  more sensitive nature.

We completely understand that it is difficult for you to not be present with your pet during consultations. However, we assure you all – as pet owners ourselves – that they are given an enormous amount of respect, love and care. We will endeavour to continuously improve our communication with you in order for you to be a part practice life.

We hope that you respect our stance and understand that a great deal of thought has gone into this decision.
